
Wise, Virginia - Stranded base runners was the story of the day for the UVa-Wise softball team as visiting Rio Grande posted a Mid-South Conference double header sweep at Cavalier Field on Thursday. In the opener, Red Storm pitching stranded 13 Cavaliers on base en route to a 7-3 victory. Meanwhile, UVa-Wise stranded 12 runners in the finale as Rio Grande posted an 8-4 win to complete the sweep.
On the day, Ashlee Washburn and Kirsten Velazquez each collected three hits for UVa-Wise while Kristina Romualdo, Allyssa Zebrowski, and Sarah Wiltshire each posted two hits on the day. Following the double header, UVa-Wise is 19-25 overall and 5-13 in Mid-South play. On Saturday, UVa-Wise will honor its seniors prior to the final home double header of the season. Senior Day Ceremonies are set for 1:00 p.m. prior to first pitch between Pikeville and UVa-Wise.
