Campbellsville, Kentucky - On Wednesday, the Mid-South Conference announced its 2012 All-Conference selections and three UVa-Wise Cavaliers were honored. Juniors Brett Hylton and Tommy Meier each received first team accolades while senior Ryan Crosby was a second team honoree by the league's coaches.
Hylton enters the Mid-South Tournament hitting .338 with nine home runs and 42 RBIs. The home runs rank the right fielder second in the league while his RBI total is fourth best in the conference. Fellow junior Tommy Meier enters the tournament hitting .388 with 37 runs scored and 10 stolen bases. In addition, the catcher is currently on a career best 18 game hitting streak. In addition to the three athletic awards, Cody Bentley, Kirk Jennings, and Justin Wilson earned Academic All-Mid-South honors for their work in the classroom. To be eligible, a student-athlete must maintain a 3.25 grade point average and be in good academic standing with his institution.
UVa-Wise will begin its quest for a Mid-South Conference title on Thursday when the Cavaliers play Campbellsville University at 1:00 p.m. in the 2012 Mid-South Tournament.
