
Rio Grande, Ohio - Host University of Rio Grande wasted no time on Saturday as the Red Storm forced 16 first half turnovers en route to a 91-64 victory over the visiting Cavaliers of UVa-Wise. Rio Grande used the 16 first half turnovers to build a 41-30 advantage at intermission as Kaylee Helton scored 14 of her team best 20 points in the opening period.
UVa-Wise shot an impressive 51 percent from the floor in the contest but turned the ball over 26 times in comparison to 13 turnovers by Rio Grande. The Red Storm also enjoyed an advantage on the boards by out rebounding the Cavs 39-27 in the Mid-South win.
In the loss, UVa-Wise was led by Kristin Mullins who scored 22 points on nine of 13 shooting and Chelsea Cluesman who recorded her league best tenth double-double of the season with 15 points and ten rebounds. UVa-Wise falls to 3-14 with the loss and 0-7 in league play while Rio Grande improves to 13-5 and 4-2 in Mid-South action.
