Wise, Virginia -  Faulkner University opened its 2012 season with a 43-10 victory over host UVa-Wise on Saturday.  The victory was the first ever in Wise for the Eagles who take a 2-1 series lead against the Cavaliers in all-time matchups. 

The Eagles were led by David Amos who rushed for 149 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries while reigning NAIA passing champion Josh Hollingsworth completed 21 of 36 pass attempts for 247 yards and two touchdowns. 

In a losing effort, Ryan Bouldin caught six passes for 68 yards with a long of 33 yards.  The lone Cavalier touchdown came on a 69 yard interception return by Vernon Payne while Paul Melshen connected on a 28 yard field goal and a point after attempt to round out the UVa-Wise scoring.

On defense, UVa-Wise forced three turnovers, all interceptions.  In addition to Payne's interception, Marcus Bratton and A.J. Portee also picked off Hollingsworth in the loss.  For the second consecutive game, senior linebacker led the team in tackles with 11.

With the win, Faulkner improves to 1-0 on the season while UVa-Wise drops to 1-1.  The Cavaliers will return to action next Saturday when the team travels to Campbell University
