
The UVa Wise wommen's cross country ran their second NCAA school-hosted meet in a row. Plus this time they were additionally challenged by a difficult course of multiple rolling hills over wet grass not yet dried out by the growing warmth. (on this 5K course the 2011 median time was 23:44, and the 2012 median time was 24:21). Nationally ranked Milligan College won the race.
Emily Brock led the way for the UVa Wise women with a steadily paced 24:46 time (38th place). She was followed closely by Samantha Balthis (25:07, 42nd place) and Whitney Carico (25:08, 43rd). Carico fought off a late charging Tennessee-Wesleyan runner to cling on to important points. Madison Compton (27:03, 53rd) meanwhile out-kicked a Covenant runner at the finish to gain the team much needed points. Megan Hilliard was ill, but unselfishly came out to to run in order to provide the teamwith the fifth runner required for a team score. Candice Discepolo did not compete due to an injury.
