The UVa Wise men's cross country team ran at the South-Eastern Classic race Saturday. The race consisted of many of the best NAIA teams from around the southern region. This year's race contained half the number of teams compared to previous years, as many teams sought faster race courses instead in order to obtain fast times for late-season ranking purposes. The course at Berea is a classic cross country course involving crossing a stream twice, open fields, rolling hills, and inclines. It is fun to run but is not conducive to record times. University of the Cumberlands won the men's race, with UVa Wise finishing 11th of 15 teams (12 scoring).
Once again Matt Parker led the team and once again acheived another personal best time. He finished 57th in 29:04. As usual Tyler Morris followed shortly behind Parker, finishing 61st in 29:42. Sean Johnson continues to remain on the cusp of a breakthrough into top quality times with another run just over 30 minutes, finishing in 65th in 30:49. Josh Willcuts finished 68th in 31:31, and right behind him Christian Bresnock rebounded brilliantly from ongoing injury issues. Bresnock finished two minutes faster than his last race by finishing 69th with a 31:34. Landry Mullins finished shortly after in 72nd with a 33:30, and then Jake Garman rounded out the order by finishing in 75th place in 34:02.
