
The UVa Wise men's cross country finished the season at the Mid-South conference championship race hosted this year by the University of Rio Grande. Eleven Mid-South schools competed for post-season honors. Shawnee State, ranked 6th in the nation, took top honors; followed by Cumberlands, ranked 27th nationally. UVa Wise finished 7th of 11 teams, one place out of the exact middle.
The team was led by Tyler Morris who ran a personal best time of 29:10 while out sprinting a Georgetown (KY) runner at the tape to finish in 35th place. Morris was followed by Sean Johnson who showed great toughness as he developed a hamstring injury in the race yet still ran a personal best of 29:58 to finish 38th. Matt Parker suffered from a stomach ailment race morning, losing the contents of his stomach twice during the race, but still finished with a competitive 30:41 time in 40th place. Josh Willcuts finished in 32:06 in 46th place. Our fifth scoring runner, Landry Mullins, ran his best race of the year giving the team a 51st place finish in 32:28. Jake Garman, while fighting a cold, managed one of his better races of the year, finishing 5th in 33:25. Christian Bresnock did not run due to a pneumothorax condition.
