
Pikeville, Ky. – Host University of Pikeville collected its first win of the season by posting an 84-74 double overtime victory over UVa-Wise in Mid-South Conference women's basketball on Tuesday. The victorious Bears forced 29 Cavalier turnovers en route to claiming the school's first victory of the year.
UPike's Peyton Wright led all scorers with 27 points on eight of 17 shooting. Natalie Tunnell added 15 points for the Bears as she connected on five three pointers. UPike also received ten points from point guard Sally Roberts who finished the game without committing a turnover.
UVa-Wise was led by the Chelsea Cluesman who finished the game seven of ten from the field and ten of 14 from the foul line to finish with 24 points. The senior also grabbed 14 rebounds to record her second consecutive double-double. MaKenzie Cluesman continued her string of impressive play by finishing with 21 points, four rebounds, five assists, and three steals in the loss. Christine Nyboe added 14 rebounds to aid the Cavs to a 49-40 advantage on the glass.
The loss drops UVa-Wise to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in league action. The Cavs will return to play on Saturday when the team travels to Limestone on Saturday for a non-conference tilt.
