Wise, Va. – The struggling University of Virginias College at Wise women's basketball team was unable to overcome their shooting woes and dropped their fifth straight game to The University of the Cumberlands 63-52.

The University of Virginia's College at Wise was unable to overcome an early six point lead by the visiting University of the Cumberlands early Saturday afternoon. They trailed the Patriots by 13 going into the half.  They pulled within eight points on a steal and a three-pointer by Cassie Kirby with 7:58 left to play in the second half. However, the Cavs were unable erase any more of the deficit as Cumberlands stretched the lead to as many as 14 from there.

The Cavaliers shot 48.5 percent from the field and were 11-19 from beyond the three point line. They were out-rebounded by Cumberlands 36-25 for the game. The Cavaliers were led by Charlotte Reasor who scored 15 points and 10 rebounds. Shameka Smith in her first game since break scored 13 points and Katie Jo Lester added 12.

Cumberlands were led by 6 foot forward Dace Bicane with a game high 23 points and game high 18 rebounds. Jessica Upchurch, Jackie Alexander, and Ashley Mullins all added 10 points apiece.  

The win lifts University of the Cumberlands to 11-6 overall and 4-4 in the Mid-South. The loss drops the Cavaliers to 5-12 overall and 2-6 in the conference.

The Cavaliers will continue Mid-South play as UVa-Wise will host Georgetown on January 17th at 6 p.m.
