Wise, Va. - Head Coach Lee Clark's Cavaliers (10-11, 6-10 Mid-South) struggled in its first game without leading scorer Javon Moore. UVa-Wise shot just 27.9 percent in Thursday's 60-47 loss to Campbellsville University (17-9, 10-6 Mid-South)
The Tigers defense was even stronger on the perimeter as the Cavs made just six of 33 shots beyond the arc, 18.2 percent. The lack of offensive production by UVa-Wise allowed the visitors to build a nine point halftime lead.
Campbellsville was led by an 18 point, nine rebound performance by Vernon Payne and a 15 point effort from Justin Ennis. UVa-Wise's Matt Day scored a team-high 14 points while Darius Smith scored 10 points and Deon Boyce grabbed 17 rebounds.
UVa-Wise will be back in action on Saturday when Mid-South leading Lindsey Wilson College visits the Prior Center for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
