
PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – UVa-Wise limited Shawnee State to 20 second half points and overcame a 12 point first half deficit to post a 65-50 victory at The Frank and Janis Waller Gymnasium on Thursday.
Head Coach Lee Clark's Cavaliers (11-12, 7-11 Mid-South) used a team-high 17 points from Matt Day along with 15 points, six rebounds, and five assists from Darius Smith to take a big step in securing the eighth and final Mid-South Conference Tournament berth.
Shawnee State's (16-11, 11-7) Jeremy Bennington scored 17 of his game-high 19 points in the first half as the host went into intermission with a 30-24 advantage. The second half defense from UVa-Wise thwarted Bennington and his teammates as Shawnee hit just four of 23 second half attempts. Tyler Morgan added 13 points and 14 points in the loss while Ian Nixon chipped in 10.
