
Wise, Va - In a doubleheader that was moved forward a day to avoid potential weather threats, the Cavaliers had pleny of offense scoring 16 runs in the two game split with the 15th ranked team in the nation Lindsey Wilson College. The Cavaliers (11-8, 4-2 MSC) handed Lindsey Wilson (17-2, 3-1 MSC) its first loss in conference play with a 7-2 drubbing. They then dropped a heartbreaker that went 11 innings 10-9 to the Blue Raiders.
In the first game of the two game set Rachel Hawks (6-4) threw a complete game giving up only two unearned runs on five hits. She got plenty of assistance from her offense throughout the game. Led by Kristina Romualdo and Charity Lawson the Cavaliers were able to score seven runs in the contest. Romualdo hit her fourth home run of the season on her way to going 3-4 in the game and driving in three runs. Lawson improved her average to .377 going 2-4 in the game and also driving in two runs to reach the 20 RBI mark on the season.
Lindsey Wilson used three pitchers in the loss, each giving up at least three hits in their appearances. Cara Law (2-2) was pegged with the loss after going 1.2 innings and giving up five runs, four of which were earned. Catcher Jane Egiazarova is the only Blue Raider to record multiple hits in the game going 2-3.
The Cavs were not so fortunate in the second game as the game went into extra innings with each team knotted at six through seven innings. A sacrifice fly by each team in the tenth set up an offensive dual in the 11th. In the top of the 11th inning with a runner starting at second base, a ground out advanced the runner to third. Antoinette Jenkins of the Blue Raiders singled home the runner. The Cavaliers got the second out of the inning on a pop up, but a two-run two out blast by Kristinia Krupinski put Lindsey Wilson up by three runs 10-7. The Cavs retired the next batter to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 11th with Charity Lawson placed at second, the first batter of the bottom half of the inning Megan Dillion blasted a two-run shot for her third home run of the year. The next batter flied out, but was followed by a double from Mindy Combs. Combs advanced to third on a wild pitch after a pop out by Kristen Velazquez. A groundout to short ended the comeback effort from the Cavaliers.
Lindsey Wilson's Jordan Hood (4-0) earned the win pitching six innings of relief giving up three runs, none of which were earned. Rachel Hawks (6-5) was pegged with the loss throwing five innings of relief giving up six runs.
The Blue Raiders had four players with multi-hit games, being led by Jenkins who was 4-6 in the game with one run batted in. The Cavaliers had five players with two hits or more and were led by second baseman Kristen Velazquez who ended the game 3-5 scoring a run and driving in one.
