Lookout Mountain,
Ga. - UVa-Wise was able to
complete its first Appalachian Athletic Conference sweep of an opponent on
Wednesday evening. The Highland
Cavaliers rode a 10-point halftime lead into a 75-60 victory over the Scots of
Covenant College.
Adam Hood paced the Cavs (8-19/6-11 AAC) attack with 19
points on six of 12 shots and four of eight from long-range. Pance Kecev had a hot hand with five of seven
triples for 18 points. Travis Willis and
Eric Swords chipped in 10 tallies with Swords having five assists. Aaron Meachem grabbed nine caroms.
Davis Eldridge netted 16 points for the Scots (2-27/1-16
AAC).
UVa-Wise scored the first six points of the contest on
back-to-back three-pointers by Hood and Kecev and never trailed. Kecev added a second triple to open a 9-2
advantage. Swords hit a field goal to
increase the lead to 12 points, 25-13, before having a 26-16 intermission lead.
Covenant was able to cut the difference to eight points two
times but could not make the game any closer to fall 75-60.
UVa-Wise completes its regular season with a 6:00 p.m.
Saturday affair against Bryan
College.
