Lookout Mountain, Ga. - The Highland Cavalier women's volleyball team was able to take away a victory from their weekend southern swing on Saturday. After falling to former Appalachian Athletic Conference rival Covenant College, 3-0, in the morning, UVa-Wise came back to take the final three games to defeat Huntingdon College, 3-2, to finish the day.

UVa-Wise (3-10) took Covenant to the limit in the first contest, 28-30, before the host team prevailed 25-19 and 25-21 in games two and three to complete the sweep. The Cavs came back in the afternoon affair. After coming up short 21-25 and 23-25 in the first two games, UVa-Wise rattled off three-straight victories, 25-22, 27-25 and the match deciding 15-9 fifth game to take the match over Huntingdon.

In the first bout, Mikaela Anders pounded 18 kills and dug four balls. Kelley Bumgarner added 26 assists to go with three digs and three kills. Ruth Hoover chipped in 13 digs.

For the first five game match of the year, Anders came back for 16 kills, five digs, two aces and five total blocks. Hoover had 19 digs and an ace. Bumgarner had a solid afternoon with 37 assists, seven kills, eight digs, an ace and one block. Kayla Dougherty was strong with six kills, three aces, two digs and two blocks. Courtney Coe dug 10 balls and Idalina Walker lined eight kills.

UVa-Wise will have Sunday off before hosting Pikeville College for a 6:30 p.m. Monday night match.
