The Red Team and Black Team pitching staffs shined on Tuesday afternoon, in Game Two of the Annual UVA-Wise Baseball Fall World Series. The Black Team got a solid start from Sophomore Jonathan Hawkins (Monroe, NC), who went four innings allowing three runs on six hits. Hawkins was followed up by Sophomore Chris Smith (Castlewood, VA), Junior Preston Landes (Radford, VA), and Junior Preston Smith (Bristol, VA) who combine to throw five innings while allowing only one run on three hits. However, the Black Team was out done by the Red Team pitching staff. The Red Team used a good start by Junior D'Andre Bussey (Virginia Beach, VA) and a solid relief effort from Freshman Paul Creech (Harlan, KY), Sophomore Stephan Kanode (Martinsville, VA), Junior Josh Joseph (Axton, VA) and Brandon Marshall (Willis, VA) to seal the extra inning victory.

The Red Team took a 1-0 first inning lead when Sophomore Cody Bentley (Wise, VA) singled to drive in Freshman Danny Bates (Chantilly, VA, who led off the game with a double. Sophomore Matt Reisinger (Fairfax, VA) knocked in Bentley on a sacrifice fly to give the Red Team an early 2-0 lead. The Red team added to their lead in the second inning when Freshman Brian King (Chantilly, VA) drove in Senior Adam Skoranski (Cheyenne, WY) with a sacrifice fly, to make the score 3-0 after two. The Black Team answered with two runs in the third on Freshman Jonathan Cox's (Martinsville, VA) RBI groundout and sacrifice fly by Freshman Brett Hylton (Dry Fork, VA). The score remained 3-2 until the seventh inning when Jonathan Cox hit an RBI triple to send the game into extra innings. In the ninth inning, the Red Team's Adam Skoranski led off the inning reaching on an error. After a sacrifice bunt by Junior Billy Fox (Chincoteague, VA) the Black Team chose to intentionally walk Brian King. Danny Bates then drove in the game winning run with a single to Centerfield. Preston Smith took the loss for the Black Team after throwing 2 innings and allowing just one run on one hit. Brandon Marshall picked up the win for the Red Team.

Game three of the series will be held Friday night at 7:30 with Junior Josh Joseph set to start for the Red Team against Freshman Jonathan Cox for the Black Team. All fans and alumni are invited to come out to the game.
