
Wise, Va. - In its third match in less than three days, UVa-Wise was able to gut out a five match victory over Appalachian Athletic Conference foe Tennessee Wesleyan on Saturday morning. The Highland Cavaliers captured a 3-2 victory over the Lady Bulldogs by taking the deciding contest, 15-11.
After taking the first game, 25-14, UVa-Wise (6-15/3-9 AAC) fell just shy in the second contest, 24-26. The home team came back for a 25-22 win in game three before Tennessee Wesleyan (2-18/1-13 AAC) forced a fifth game by winning the fourth game, 20-25. The Cavs prevailed 15-11 in the deciding contest to end its tough three games in under three games.
Mikaela Anders hit a season-best 27 kills, hit .545, blocked four attacks, dug 15 balls and lined four aces. Kayla Dougherty and Megan Funk downed 10 kills apiece. Kelley Bumgarner had a season-high 46 assists to go with eight digs. Courtney Coe and Ruth Hoover paced the defense with 16 and 11 digs. Autumn Chisenhall had the top serve with five aces.
UVa-Wise will travel to Bluefield College for a 6:30 p.m. match on Tuesday night.
