
Wise, Va. - After having a rocky first game, UVa-Wise bounced back to take Mountain State, 3-1, in a Thursday night women's volleyball match.
The Cougars (11-12) came out strong in the match to take the opening contest, 25-11. The Highland Cavaliers (9-16) battled back to hold their home court with three-straight wins in the following games, 25-17, 25-21 and 25-21. UVa-Wise has now won four of its last five matches.
Mikaela Anders and Megan Funk pounded 25 kills to lead the offensive attack. Anders added 14 digs and five total blocks. Kayla Dougherty laced eight kills, three digs and two block assists. Ruth Hoover and Courtney Coe produced 19 and 13 digs. Kelley Bumgarner added 10 digs to go with 37 assists, three block assists and an ace. Kaitlyn Collins had four kills and two block assists.
UVa-Wise will now be off until playing at Virginia Intermont next Tuesday night, October 27th for a 6:30 p.m. bout.
