Black Mountain, NC- Mary Katherine Phipps completed her strong sophomore season by finishing 16^th at the 2009 AAC Championships. 

Phipps ran a 21:28.01 in the 5K event averaging just over 6 minutes and 50 seconds per mile. Kayla Balthis was the next strongest UVa-Wise runner. Balthis' time of 22:54.24 was good enough for 22^nd in the event. Leslie Ann Hitt had a strong performance also, Hitt finished 28^th with a time of 24:31.75. Other UVa-Wise runners were Tamara Haack, 35^th place, and Danielle Sparkman, 47^th. As a team UVa-Wise finished 5^th. The meet marked the conclusion of the 2009 season.
