Montgomery, Ala. - After not capitalizing on redzone opportunities and turnovers, the Highland Cavaliers came away on the short end of the football season finale on Saturday. Faulkner University scored the game's final 17 points to come from behind for a 24-21 victory over UVa-Wise.

The loss prevents UVa-Wise from capturing its fourth-straight winning campaign to finish at 5-6. Faulkner snapped a nine-game losing streak to finish at 2-9.

Senior wide receivers Matt Barbour and Brad Ricker highlighted the contest in their final Cav games. Barbour grabbed eight balls for 165 yards and a 67-yard touchdown along with rushing for his first career score covering four yards. He also caught the second-half two-point conversion. Ricker pulled in five passes for 91 yards with a five-yard score to become the 11th UVa-Wise receiver to pass 1,000 career yards at 1,044.

Brad Robbins completed 19 of 32 passes for 290 yards and two scores. On the defense, Jahmal Potter, Dennis Bennett and Amondre Johnson picked off passes. Johnson, John Mathis and Luke Spurlock had nine, seven and seven tackles.

UVa-Wise took the lead on its first possession and second offensive play when Robbins hit Barbour for a 67-yard score. Faulkner tied the game early in the second frame before Robbins found Ricker from five yards for a 13-7 halftime tally.

After an early UVa-Wise score on Barbour's four-yard run, the game was all Faulkner from that point. The Eagles connected on a 25-yard field goal in the third before finding paydirt two times in the fourth. The final tally came with only 46 seconds on the clock when Trey Martin found Deonta Allen on a slant. The Eagles converted the two-point conversion to go in front, 24-21. UVa-Wise could not get a first down with 41 seconds left to end the contest.

The Cavs could not convert on its second and third possessions both inside the home 25-yardline in the first quarter into any points nor could they take advantage of three interceptions and an Eagle fumble.
