Wise, Va. - After leading the Highland Cavaliers to two impressive league victories, Kristin Mullins earned the Appalachian Athletic Conference women's basketball Player of the Week honors announced today.

The sophomore guard averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds to lead UVa-Wise over two AAC teams receiving votes in the NAIA Division II women's basketball national poll in Bryan College, 78-64, and Union College, 82-77.

The pair of wins kept the Cavs within a half game of the top spot in the AAC at 6-2 and will face league-leader 25th-ranked Milligan (7-2) on Wednesday night starting at 5:30 p.m. in Johnson City, Tenn.

Mullins hit 18 of her 33 shots she attempts at a 54.5% clip for her 20.5-point average. The Clintwood, Va. native added 17 rebounds, 12 defensive, for an 8.5-rebound average to go with five assists and two steals. Mullins leads UVa-Wise with a 55.2% field goal percentage, 14.6 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

Against Bryan, Mullins hit for 17 points, grabbed four caroms, dished out three assists and stole two passes last Wednesday night.

She followed the outing with her best of the season. The 5-10 guard hit a jumper in the paint to give the Cavs a 73-70 lead at 2:12 left. Leading 76-73, Mullins pulled down the defensive rebound and was fouled with 24 ticks on the clock for what would seal the 82-77 comeback victory over Union College. On the afternoon, the wing player hit 10 of 16 attempts including her only three-point try and three of four from the charity stripe for 24 points, her season-best. She tied her season-high with 13 rebounds, nine defensive, for her fifth double-double of the year and handed out two helpers.
