Milligan College, Tenn. - Leading 82-81, UVa-Wise connected on three of four free throws in the final 14 seconds to upset 25th-ranked Milligan College, 85-81, in Appalachian Athletic Conference women's basketball Wednesday night.

The Highland Cavaliers (12-7) take over the top spot in the AAC with the victory at 7-2. The Lady Buffs (14-9) fall a half game behind at 7-3. The win also doubles the number of victories from a year ago for UVa-Wise from six to 12.

After a Milligan basket to cut the score to 82-81, Meghan Rutherford was fouled with 13.2 ticks on the clock. Rutherford made one of two attempts for an 83-81 score. The Lady Buffs raced down the other end of the floor to see Jaimee Hill miss a three-point attempt and UVa-Wise's Kristin Mullins pull in the carom. Mullins connected on both foul shots upon being fouled right away for what would be the 85-81 final.

Mullins made seven of 11 shots for 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double. Ayla Young downed four triples as part of her 16 points. Brittany Maxwell hit for 14 points while Amber Carter added 14 points and three assists. Chelsea Cluesman chipped in seven points and grabbed eight rebounds on the night.

Alisha Mainer led Milligan with 17 points while Heather Mandela contributed 16 points and 16 rebounds.

UVa-Wise returns home for a 2:00 p.m. Saturday affair with Bluefield College.
