Chesterfield, Va. - Recently, Matoaca's Allyssa
Zebrowski signed to head to southwest Virginia and become part of the
University of Virginia's College at Wise softball team.
She will join the highly-successful Highland
Cavalier program this fall. In the last
five years, UVa-Wise has won at least 29 games in each of those seasons
including a 31-18 mark in 2009 to go with three trips to the NAIA National
Championship. The Cavs also captured
five Appalachian Athletic Conference crowns in the last six seasons including
the 2009 title.
The future Highland Cavalier will come to the
college campus in the fall after what will be a decorated scholastic career
with the Matoaca Lady Warriors. The
middle infielder earned All-Central District first team acclaim in each of the
last three seasons. She posted a .333
average, .433 slugging percentage and 10 stolen bases last spring.
Zebrowski also plays for the highly competitive
Virginia Rowdies Elite travel team where she manned second base and
outfield.
"Allyssa is a versatile player and a leader," said
UVa-Wise head coach Tori Raby-Gentry. "She has good speed and is smart
on the bases. She will be a great fit
for the program and institution. She
understands the importance of hard work both on the field and in the classroom."
Zebrowski
carries a 4.2 GPA and plans to major in biology or environmental science at
UVa-Wise.
