The suddenly hot streaking UVa-Wise continue its run and took down the
Appalachian Athletic Conference leading Tennessee Wesleyan, 74-66, on Saturday.
The Highland
Cavaliers (11-10) never trailed in the 40 minutes and had only one time coming
in the first two minutes. The Bulldogs
(12-12) pulled to within a point, 48-47, for the third time but the home team
netted 11 of the next 14 points to get back the breathing room, 59-50, with
8:09. UVa-Wise led by no less than five
points before the 74-66 final.
Travis Berry
and Pance Kecev paced the winning effort with 16 points apiece. Norris Gaskins hauled in a double-double of 14
points, hitting all five field goal attempts and grabbed 11 caroms. Adam Hood added 11 points and six boards.
The Cavs
have now won their last four games to pull in a three-way tie for second place
at 8-4 just one game behind the Bulldogs (9-3).
E'Jay Ward had top honors for the visitors with 13 points.
UVa-Wise
will face Reinhardt College in a 7:30 p.m. affair on Wednesday night, Feb. 10th.
