
Bristol, Va. - After battling back to within three points at half, UVa-Wise fell apart midway through the second 20 minutes and had a disastrous half to give Virginia Intermont the 91-72 victory on Saturday afternoon.
Trailing 50-47 with 13:39 left, the Lady Cobras (2-23/1-12 Appalachian Athletic Conference) rattled off the next eight points to build an 11-point advantage, 58-47. The margin grew to 20, 75-55, with 6:47 on the clock before the Highland Cavaliers (13-11/8-6 AAC) saw the 91-72 final on the scoreboard.
Kristin Mullins had top honors for the visitors with 23 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double. Amber Carter and Ayla Young were the other two double figure point producers with 15 and 13 tallies. Chelsea Cluesman added seven points.
Virginia Intermont saw five players reach double digit points with Ashley Grimm leading with 16. Ca'Star Harper pulled down 12 rebounds.
UVa-Wise will wrap up its home slate with a makeup contest on Monday night, Feb. 15th starting at 5:30 p.m. against Reinhardt College.
