
Bristol, Tenn. - The deficit proved to be a too great for UVa-Wise. Despite a late 25-0 run, the Highland Cavaliers fell, 90-72, in women's basketball to the Lady Tornado of King College.
King (14-10) ran out to a huge early lead and dominated the game throughout. The home team led 44-22 at intermission and held a substantial 85-43 score. The Cavs (14-12) rallied with the 25-0 spurt to cut the difference down to 17 points two times before the 90-72 final.
Meghan Rutherford paced the UVa-Wise attack with 13 points and five rebounds. Ayla Young and Amber Carter added 12 and 10 tallies apiece. Kristin Mullins contributed seven points and seven rebounds with a solid eight-point and five rebound performance from Chelsea Cluesman.
UVa-Wise suffered a six for 31 (19.4%) first 20 minutes and did rebound to shot almost 32% for the night.
Ashley Deans had the top honors on the night with 19 points on seven of 11 tries.
UVa-Wise will finish its regular season with a road Appalachian Athletic Conference game at Bryan College starting at 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
