
Dayton, Tenn. - After controlling much of the first half, UVa-Wise saw nothing go its way in the deciding second stanza on Saturday evening. Host Bryan College stormed out of the intermission to quickly open a lead and dominated the period to an 85-69 men's basketball final score.
The Highland Cavaliers (14-12) loss to the Lions (18-9) creates a four-way tie at the top of the Appalachian Athletic Conference regular season final standings. UVa-Wise, Union, Bluefield and Bryan will all share the regular season crown. UVa-Wise will go into Wednesday's quarterfinals as the fourth seed and will host #5 Tennessee Wesleyan at 7:30 p.m.
The Cavs held onto a 32-31 lead at the half. Bryan came out and hit 14 of 19 tries and added another 23 points from the foul line to outscore its opponent, 54-37, in the second half.
UVa-Wise received a season-best 26 points from Pance Kecev as the lone double figure scorer. Travis Berry added nine points while both Norris Gaskins and Mark Phillips chipped in eight.
Bryan was paced by Scott Newton's 32-point total on 10 of 13 tries.
