Cocoa Beach, FL - The Highland Cavaliers picked up their first win of the 2010 season on Monday as they defeated Penn St. Wilkes-Barre 12-2. Brad Robbins picked up the win for the Cavs by pitching six innings of two run baseball while striking out ten batters.

Using a strong offensive start the Cavaliers built a 4-1 lead after two innings and never looked back. Paced by Tommy Meir (Ashburn, VA) and Jonathon Cox (Martinsville, VA), the UVa-Wise offense pounded out 12 hits in the victory. Meir and Cox each went 3-3 in the game while combining for four rbi. Freshman Chaz Hall (Seaford, VA) knocked in two on the day to aid the offensive attack.
The only threat to the lead came when Penn. St. Wilkes-Barre cut the lead to just one in the top of the sixth. UVa-Wise would respond by exploding for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to put the game out of reach.

Senior Brad Robbins (Big Stone Gap, VA) would pitch a gem on the mound.  The left handed hurler picked up the 12th win of his career while setting a new career high in strikeouts at ten.  UVa-Wise will take the field again this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. when they take on Penn College.
