Duffield, Va. - Another top notch softball talent has selected UVa-Wise as their destination for college choice.  Rye Cove High's Charity Lawson will follow her former Highland Cavalier standout sister, Britney, to make her own mark on the college's softball ranks in the next four seasons.

The Cavs, who have made appearances in three of the last five NAIA National Championships and are the defending Appalachian Athletic Conference champions, will welcome the new catcher/utility player to the roster.

Charity will head to the Wise campus with honor scholastic honors including being last spring's Cumberland District Player of the Year for Falcons. In 2009, the future catcher who also has seen time on the mound and in the outfield hit .454 with 24 runs scored, five home runs, which broke her sister Britney's season home run total and drove in 19 runners.

"Charity is solid behind the plate with a strong arm.  She has good speed and is versatile," points out UVa-Wise head softball coach Tori Raby-Gentry.  "Offensively she is a consistent base hitter with home run power.  Charity will make an immediate impact behind the plate and will add offense to the lineup."
