Gate City, Va. - One of the Virginia state champion Gate City women's volleyball players will move just a little ways north to continue her player career next fall.   Middle hitter Brittany Simpson signed recently to become a Highland Cavalier for the 2010 campaign.

Simpson will be the first recruit by second-year head coach Kendall Rainey and the first future Cav to solely play in the Mid-South Conference starting in the fall.

The Blue Devil helped the volleyball program capture back-to-back state titles, two state runner-up squads, four Region D championship teams and four Clinch Mountain District title clubs.  Simpson earned All-Clinch Mountain District second team acclaim this season.

Individually, Simpson finished her career with 544 kills, 170 of them coming last fall.  The 5-4 player hit .310, dug 143 balls, lined 33 aces and blocked 93 attacks, 69 solo, for her four years.

The future Cav is the daughter of Jame and Marie Williamson of Gate City, Va. and plans to major in nursing upon arriving on the Wise campus.
