Barbourville, KY - Union College swept UVa-Wise in a baseball double header on Friday. The Bulldogs took game one 18-0 while beating the Cavaliers 6-2 in game two. The wins improved Union to 16-6 overall and 7-1 inside the Appalachian Athletic Conference on the season while UVa-Wise fell to 6-10 and 1-6 in the AAC. 

In game one Union took advantage of UVa-Wise mistakes to put 18 runs on the board. Highland Cavalier pitchers walked ten batters while hitting another in the loss. The UVa-Wise offense sputtered as well, as a team UVa-Wise picked up three hits in the contest. Union College broke open a 1-0 game in the second inning by scoring nine runs on seven hits. The Highland Cavaliers aided the Bulldog cause by committing an error, walking two, and having a wild pitch. From that point UVa-Wise never recovered, the Cavs' committed three errors in the ball game while walking ten in the loss. Dusty Haigler (Hanover, PA), Jonathon Cox (Martinsville, VA), and Brian King (Chantilly, VA) each singled for UVa-Wise. Brandon Hedrick picked up the win for Union while Cody Bentley (Wise, VA) took the loss for UVa-Wise.

In game two UVa-Wise responded by taking a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the fourth. The Highland Cavaliers took the lead on a Kirby Bush two out, two rbi, single in the visiting half of the fourth. Union responded with three runs in their half of the inning to reclaim the lead. The lead stayed at 4-2 until the fifth inning when Union took advantage of four consecutive walks to lead off the inning. The Bulldogs would score two more to reach the final score of 6-2. Offensively, Brad Robbins (Big Stone Gap, VA) lead the way for UVa-Wise by going 2-3 in the ball game. Adam Snyder earned the win for Union while Jonathon Cox (Martinsville, VA) took the loss for UVa-Wise

UVa-Wise and Union will finish the three game series Monday in Barbourville at 3:00 p.m.
