Wise, VA - UVa-Wise and Bluefield split an Appalachian Athletic Conference baseball double header on Saturday. Bluefield took game one 5-2 while UVa-Wise won the day's second game 6-5.  UVa-Wise's Brad Robbins became the school's all time hits leader when he pulled a double down the right field in the sixth inning of the first game. The hit was the 233rd of Robbins career; he now holds career records for hits, rbi, doubles, extra base hits, and home runs. The senior helped lead the Highland Cavaliers to victory in the second game when launched a two run home run in the fourth inning.

Bluefield College got to UVa-Wise starter Jonathon Cox in the second inning of the first game to jump out to a four run advantage. Following a K.J. Sobolewski walk, Jermiah McMillian homered to give the Rams a 2-0 lead. Bluefield extended their lead to three when Tony Singleton's base hit scored Andy Podolak, Podolak had reached base on an error. The Rams plated a fourth run in the inning when Travis Weaver grounded into a fielder's choice to score Zac Goodyear. After holding UVa-Wise scoreless in the second, Bluefield's offense picked up another run in third. McMillian singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, moved to third on a ground out, and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Goodyear. From that point, UVa-Wise turned to the bullpen and Josh Joesph. Joseph shut the Rams down as he pitched four and two thirds of one hit baseball. The right hander did not allow a run as he struck out four in the relief appearance.

The game remained 5-0 until the bottom of the sixth, the Cavalier offense battled back, and Brad Robbins made history. Tommy Meier led off the inning with a base hit, one batter later Dusty Haigler's fielder choice erased Meier leaving Haigler on first with one out for Robbins. In his third attempt of the day, Robbins doubled down the right field line for his 233rd career hit. With the hit Robbins' surpassed former teammate Jorge Laboy for the all time hits lead at the school and gave his team an opportunity to mount a comeback. With runners on second and third and just one away, Cody Bentley picked up his only hit of the day, driving in Haigler and cutting the score to 5-1. One batter later, Brett Hylton's sacrifice fly to right field scored Brad Robbins making the score 5-2. With the lead cut to three, Bluefield turned to Donald Howell out of the bullpen. In the seventh, UVa-Wise got a man on with one out when Brad Ricker singled to center field. Howell closed the game out as he struck out Luis Roa and got Tommy Meier on a ground out to earn the save.

In the second game the two sides traded scoreless innings until the third when Bluefield cracked into the scoring column. Tony Singleton doubled and scored when Andrew Weaver doubled to give the Rams a 1-0 lead. UVa-Wise took the lead in the fourth when Brad Robbins' fourth home run of the season scored Dusty Haigler. The Cavailers extended the lead in the fifth; Brian King singled and moved to second when Chaz Hall reached on an error, leadoff hitter Luis Roa then moved the runners over with a sacrifice bunt. With two in scoring position, Jonathon Cox scored both runners with an rbi single to right field. Cox went from first to third when Dusty Haigler reached on an error by Bluefield's Billy Funk. Cox tagged up and scored on a sacrifice fly by Robbins to make the score 5-1. UVa-Wise seemingly put the game out of reach in the sixth when Hall scored from first base on a double by Roa, leaving the score 6-1.

Trailing 6-1, Bluefield would not go away quietly. Funk led off the seventh with a base hit and moved to second when Travis Weaver was hit by a pitch. UVa-Wise reliever Jonathon Hawkins left the game after Weaver, Hawkins came on in the fourth to replace starter Ryan Crosby. On the day, Hawkins pitched three innings and a third scattering two hits while allowing two runs. With two on and one out Chris Smith took the mound looking to close out the game, Bluefield had other ideas as they loaded the bases when Ryan Lambert singled. Andrew Weaver made the game 6-2 when he singled in Billy Funk, Smith then induced a ground ball off the bat of Sobolewski to record the second out of the ninth, Trevor Weaver scored on the fielder's choice cutting the lead to three. Jeremiah McMillian kept the threat alive when he doubled in Lambert and Sobolewski making the score 6-5. Closer Josh Guizar was then summoned from the bullpen to attempt to record the game's final out. With the tying run at second and the go ahead run at the plate, Josh Guizar struck Andy Podolack to end the game. It was Guizar's fourth save of the season, Hawkins improved his record to 3-0 by picking up the win.
