Wise, VA- UVa-Wise swept Emory and Henry in a baseball double header on Wednesday. The Highland Cavaliers took game one 11-1, in five innings, while defeating the Wasps 7-3 in the night cap. UVa-Wise improves its record to 18-14 after the sweep.

In game one UVa-Wise trailed 1-0 going to the home half of the second. In the second the Highland Cavaliers took the lead and never looked back. Jonathon Cox singled in Brett Hylton to tie the game at one while Chaz Hall's rbi sacrifice fly scored Brian King put the Highland Cavaliers on top 2-1.

UVa-Wise would blow the game open over the next two innings to pick up the 11-1 win. Hytlon cleared the bases with a three run home run in the third, the first of his collegiate career. In the fourth, UVa-Wise scored six runs to put the game out of reach. The Highland Cavaliers scored the six runs on just two hits in large part to walks handed out by the Wasps. The inning was capped off by a two rbi double by Brad Ricker.
With a ten run lead heading to the fifth Cody Bentley sat the Wasps down quietly. After hitting the first batter of the inning, Bentley sat the next three down in order. On the day, Bentley allowed just four hits and one earned run while earing the victory.

The finale went the distance as UVa-Wise needed a fifth save out of Josh Guizar to nail down the win. The Cavaliers scored four in the first, three coming off another Hylton home run. In the second Luis Roa doubled in Chaz Hall to extend the advantage to five. The lead grew to six when Brian King belted a solo shot in the third.

Emory and Henry responded with a run in the fourth only to lose it back one inning later. In the fifth, Kirby Bush singled in King to again give UVa-Wise a six run lead. From there, Emory mounted a comeback effort. Brent Davenport led off the sixth with a base hit and scored two batters later on an rbi single by Matt Moyer. Emory and Henry would eventually load the bases in the inning forcing UVa-Wise to bring in closer Josh Guizar.

With no outs, Guizar got a ground ball double play to record the first two outs of the inning, Remington Hedgepath scored on the play. Guizar then struck out Codie Mitchell to end the sixth inning threat. One inning later, Guizar returned the mound and retired the side without allowing a run. The fifth save of the season for Guizar puts him second on the single season saves list at UVa-Wise. Former Highland Cavalier David Jones saved ten ball games in 2006.

UVa-Wise will travel to Virginia Intermont this weekend for an Appalachian Athletic Conference series. The three game set will start with a double header on Saturday.
