Wise, VA - UVa-Wise continued its winning streak on Thursday in a sweep of Alice Lloyd College. The Highland Cavaliers took game one 5-4 while winning the night cap 20-10 in six innings. With the sweep, UVa-Wise has now won 10 consecutive games to improve to 24-14 on the year.
In game one, the Highland Cavaliers were behind 3-0 going into the third inning. UVa-Wise would crack the scoreboard when Dusty Haigler doubled in Brad Ricker to cut the lead to 3-1. One batter later, Brad Robbins cranked a two run home run to tie the game at three. The home run was the 40th of Robbins career; he is the first Cavalier to reach this mark.
In the fourth, Brett Hylton singled to lead off the inning. Hytlon scored to give UVa-Wise a 4-3 lead when Ricker lined an rbi single. The Cavaliers would add an insurance run in the fifth when Robbins hit his second home run of the game. The Eagles cut the deficit to one in the sixth when CJ Lynn sent a pitch over the left field fence.
Holding a one run advantage, UVa-Wise turned to closer Josh Guizar for the game's final three outs. Guizar retired the Eagles in order to record his seventh save of the season. The save ranks Guizar in the nation's top 20 in saves.
Game two featured a slug fest as both teams put double figures on the scoreboard. Trailing 5-1 heading into the third inning UVa-Wise erupted for 13 runs. The run output was aided by four Alice Lloyd errors; Robbins, Cody Bentley, Ricker, Chaz Hall, Luis Roa, Brian King, and Haigler all picked up rbi in the big inning. The Eagles answered back with two runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to cut the margin to five.
The Cavaliers responded with four in the fifth to push the lead back out to nine. Highlighting the inning was a three run home run by Alex Feemster, his second home run of the season. The Eagles responded with a run in the top half of the sixth to cut the lead back to eight before the Cavaliers put the game away in the bottom half of the inning. Following a Roa ground out, Haigler homered to stretch the lead back out to nine. From there, Robbins walked, King reached on an error, and Feemster was intentionally walked to set up a double play opportunity. With the bases loaded, pinch hitter Bill Thompson drew a walk ending the game at 20-10.
