Milligan took advantage of three UVa-Wise errors in the first game to score three unearned runs to post the victory.  UVa-Wise's lone run in the contest was unearned as well; Brad Ricker reached base on an error and scored on a Dusty Haigler rbi single to go ahead 1-0 in the first inning.  All three of the Buffaloes runs came in the third inning.  Following back to back singles to lead off the inning; Randy Rabon reached on an error allowing Todd Caldwell to score.  Kendall Williams then hit into a double play scoring Wes Anderson.  One batter later Dustin Ford reached on another Cavalier error; the second baseman then stole second to get into scoring position.  Ford scored the Buffaloes third run of the inning when Ricky Morgan doubled to the right centerfield gap.

UVa-Wise again jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning of game two.  Ricker walked and moved to second on a Kirby Bush sacrifice bunt, he then moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a Haigler rbi ground out.  Milligan tied the game in the third as Williams singled to lead off the inning; the leadoff man stole second and scored on a Ricky Morgan rbi base hit.

The game remained tied at one until the home half of the sixth; UVa-Wise put four on the board to take a 5-1 lead heading to the seventh.   Haigler homered to lead off the inning to give the Cavaliers a 2-1 advantage.  Two batters later Luis Roa reached on a Milligan error, Roa advanced to second on a Brian King base hit to put two on for Brett Hytlon.  Hylton would move the runners up a bag when he worked a walk to load the bases.  UVa-Wise then called on pinch hitter Cody Bentley; Bentley was hit on the first pitch of the at bat to plate a second UVa-Wise run of the inning.  Milligan would further aid the UVa-Wise cause just one batter later when Chaz Hall's ground ball was misplayed to score another run.  The Highland Cavaliers picked up a fourth run when Ricker singled in Hytlon to go ahead 5-1 heading into the seventh.

The Buffaloes mounted a rally in the seventh; Highland Cavalier starter Ryan Crosby struck out the innings first two batters before working into trouble.  Wesley Jones beat out an infield hit to keep the game alive; Jones moved to second when Williams walked he scored on a Dustin Ford rbi double to make it a 5-2 score.  UVa-Wise would then bring in closer Josh Guizar.  Guizar would unleash a wild pitch plating Williams to cut the lead to 5-3.  The right hander would then buckle down striking out Morgan to record the game's final out and his eighth save of the year.
