Kingsport, TN - The 2010 softball season came to an end on Thursday as UVa-Wise fell 4-0 to Virginia Intermont in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament. The Highland Cavaliers finish their final season in the AAC with an overall record of 15-26; next season UVa-Wise will compete in the Mid-South.

UVa-Wise fell behind 2-0 in the third when Heather Odle hit a two run home run; Rachel Cook who had reached on an error scored on the home run. The Cobras extended the lead to four in the fifth when Krystle Brenneman reached on an infield single to lead off the inning. Brenneman advanced to second one batter later when Cook walked. With runners on first and second and nobody out Odle lined her third rbi of the day scoring Brenneman. Odle would later score the Cobras fourth run of the game when sister Hayley Odle doubled her in.

The Cavalier offense stalled with runners on base; UVa-Wise left eight base runners stranded over the final four innings. In the fourth the Cavaliers put three consecutive hitters on base to pose a threat. Kaitilyn Bennett reached on an error, Rachel Thompson walked, and Kirsten Velazquez reached on an infield single to load the bases. Virginia Intermont would escape the inning as Kayla Cash lined out to left field and Megan McCoy struck out following a long at bat. In the seventh, Maddi Ridenour reached on a bunt single to lead off the inning. From there, Virginia Intermont sat the next three batters down in order to end the game. 

In her final collegiate game Lauren Snead hurled a complete game allowing six hits while surrendering three earned runs. Snead struck out six in the contest to finish her career with 733 strikeouts.
