Big Stone Gap, Virginia - Head coach Kendall Rainey completed her 2010 recruiting class when Powell Valley High School's Tasha Trent signed a letter of intent to play collegiate volleyball at UVa-Wise. The 5'11 Trent has been nothing short of amazing at Powell Valley where she led the Vikings to back to back district championships. Her work earned her the Lonesome Pine District player of the year award in 2009, Trent was also selected first team all-district, first team all-region, and honorable mention all-state in 2009.

A three sport athlete, Trent has twice been named LPD female athlete of the year. On the basketball floor, Trent was selected to the all-district and all-region team on four occasions. In track, she was also a four time all-district and all-region selection while being selected all-state in 2009. Trent comes to UVa-Wise during a period of transition, the Highland Cavaliers will be entering the Mid-South Conference in 2010 which was a key component to her recruitment.

According to coach Rainey: "Tasha is one of the premier athletes in Southwest Virginia and it is a great occasion for UVa-Wise when such an incredible talent chooses us. Powerful and driven volleyball players like Tasha are paramount for our conference transition and I believe she will be a key player for us throughout her career. She has a great set of tools to work with and I am extremely excited she has chosen to become a Cavalier."

Upon reaching the campus this fall, Tasha plans to peruse a bachelor's degree in sport management.
