Norton, Virginia - John I. Burton's April Hamilton recently signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career at the University of Virginia's College at Wise. A solid hitter and fielder, Hamilton posted a .468 batting average while getting on base at a .593 clip in 2010. In the field, Hamilton produced a .976 fielding percentage.

At UVa-Wise, Hamilton will be given the opportunity to compete for playing time early in her career. Head coach Tori Raby-Gentry says "April will help with our offense as well as offer another solid defensive player.  April has good power and defensively will compete for a position at either 3rd base or catching.  She is a hard worker that will make a solid addition to our program."

Hamilton plans to pursue a degree in elementary education when she reaches the campus this fall.
