Babson Park, Florida - The UVa-Wise offense sputtered and the defensive was called for two key penalties as the Cavaliers fell 30-10 to the Warriors of Webber International on Saturday.

After each side failed to score on its first possession the Warrior defense forced its second consecutive three and out. Following a Dean Hogan punt, Webber International set up its second drive of the game at mid-field. Terrance Moise, the Webber quarter back would find Nick Gugliele for 14 yards to move the ball down to the UVa-Wise eight yard line. The UVa-Wise defense would then bow its back, on first and goal Jahmal Potter stopped Deonte Fielder for a six yard loss on a running play. On the following play, however Potter was called for defensive pass interference to give the Warriors another first down, this time at the four yard line. Two plays later, Webber International cracked the scoreboard on a Fielder touchdown run. Mason Prater added the extra point to give the Warriors a 7-0 advantage.

The score would remain 7-0 until early in the second quarter. Again, the Warriors offense began with good field position, this time starting at the Cavalier 49 yard line. On the drive's opening play, Moise found Gugliele for a 21 yard reception. One play later, the Warriors took advantage of a personal foul facemask penalty to move inside the red zone. After back to back runs by Taylor Atwood, Webber had the ball first and goal on the UVa-Wise four yard line. For a second consecutive red zone trip, the Cavalier defense attempted to keep the Warriors out of the end zone. On first down, Fielder was stopped in the back field by Josh Weaver; one play later Derek Comer sacked Moise to move the Warriors back to the 14 yard line. The defense continued the pressure on third down, Moise was forced to throw to Guglielmel in the flats for a short gain; the stop forced fourth down. Webber would then successfully kick a 20 yard field goal to extend its lead to 10-0.

The Cavalier offense finally got on track mid-way through the second quarter. Hunter Hoke scrambled for nine yards on a second and 11 play to set up a third and two for the UVa-Wise offense. The third down play would be the biggest play of the day for the Cavalier offense as K.J. Ford broke into the Warriors secondary for a 28 yard carry moving the ball down to the Warriors 35 yard line. Three plays later, Hoke hit Andre Dickerson on a slant route for a ten yard pickup which set up a first and ten from the Webber 16. UVa-Wise would then stall on offense gaining just three yards on the game's next three plays. Allen Owens would come on to successfully kick a 29 yard field goal to cut the deficit to seven with 3:57 remaining in the first half.

After each side traded punts to end the first half, neither side scored on its first possession of the second half. UVa-Wise had appeared to stop Webber for a second time until an illegal participation penalty was called on a fourth down punt. The penalty moved the ball 15 yards and gave Webber a first down at the UVa-Wise 47. The Warriors would then work quickly, scoring in just five plays. On the drive, Moise passed for 36 yards and ran for 10 more. The drive was capped off by a Atwood touchdown run from one yard out. The extra point attempt was blocked by Danny Hinkle keeping the Warriors lead at 16-3 with five minutes remaining in the third quarter.

UVa-Wise was unable to answer on its next possession as the team failed to pick up a first down. Following a Dean Hogan punt, the Warriors started offense on its own 38 yard line. Five plays into the drive, Moise's protection broke down and the quarter back ran 55 yards into the end zone to extend the Warrior advantage, Prater added the extra point to give Webber a 23-3 lead with 1:02 to play in the third quarter.

UVa-Wise would then mount its best drive of the day, a 12 play 65 yard drive that resulted in a touchdown. Vance Gibbs ran for 13 yards on the drive's opening play to move the ball to the UVa-Wise 48 yard line. Following a Cavalier holding penalty, Nick Leftwich scrambled for 25 yards; the play moved the ball to the Warriors 38. Two plays later, Stewart Robertson rushed for 13 yards on the quarter's final play to give UVa-Wise a first down at the Webber 24 yard line. The Cavalier offense would move into the red zone when Leftwich rolled right to find a sliding Dominque Simmons on a curl route. The play was good enough for 17 yards. After failing to move on the ball on first and second down; Leftwich rolled left and found a leaping Michel Steele in the back of the end zone, Allen Owens added the extra point and the Cavaliers trailed 23-10 with 12:39 in the contest.

On the ensuing kickoff, Webber was penalized 15 yards for unsportsmanlike conduct backing the ball up to the Webber nine yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, Moise ran a quarter back draw around right end for 91 yards and a Warriors touchdown. Prater's point after was good to push the lead to 30-10.

On UVa-Wise's next possession, the Cavaliers attempted a trick play. James long took a handoff on a reverse and looked to pass; Long's pass was intercepted by Deivon Tate at the Webber 42 again setting the Warriors up in good field position.

After picking up 18 yards on first down, the UVa-Wise defense shut down the Webber drive. Josh Weaver sacked Moise on a second and ten play to move the Warriors back to mid-field. Two plays later, Webber punted and UVa-Wise took over on its own three yard line. Three plays into the drive, Leftwich scrambled and was hit attempting to throw a pass, the ball landed behind Leftwich and was recovered by the Warriors at the UVa-Wise six yard line. This time, the UVa-Wise defense drove back the Webber offense forcing a missed field goal attempt from 37 yards out.

The Cavalier offense could not capitalize going three and out on its following drive. The stop gave Webber the ball with 4:58 showing in the fourth quarter. From that point, the Warriors used a ball control offense to run out the clock and secure the 30-10 victory.

On the day, Moise rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns, the quarter back also threw for 190 yards in the victory. Leading the way for UVa-Wise was Ford who rushed seven times for 37 yards.

Next week, UVa-Wise will host Campbell University at 6:00 p.m. inside Carl Smith Stadium.
