Jim Kelly will enter his third  season directing the men's golf program at UVa-Wise in 2011. A year ago, Kelly saw his team claim the Lonesome Pine Invitational crown to finish the 2010 fall campaign.  The team continued to progress throughout the season as many young golfers improved their individual game under Kelly's tutelage.  As a team, the Cavaliers posted a solid fifth place performance at the Montreat Spring Invitational in mid March.

Prior to coming to UVa-Wise, Kelly coached golf, baseball and football during his 17 years working for nearby Powell Valley High School. He also instructed driver's education and physical education while at Powell Valley. The coach also spent time teaching at Coeburn High and Rye Cove High Schools for seven and nine years apiece.

The UVa-Wise golf director is a graduate of Powell Valley High School. He holds a bachelor's degree from East Tennessee State University and a master's degree from Union College. Coach Kelly and his wife Jamie live in nearby Big Stone Gap.
