After retiring three years ago from Powell Valley High School, Kelly will be the new leader of the Highland Cavalier golfers. He replaces UVa-Wise alum John Blake Graham, who stepped down after one year.

"I look to get some stability in the program and hope to bring success to it," the new coach added. "It will be a challenge but intend to have our team prepared physically and mentally for the competition we will be facing."

Kelly coached golf, baseball and football during his 17 years working for the Vikings. He instructed driver's education and physical at Powell Valley. The new coach also spent time teaching at Coeburn High and Rye Cove High Schools for seven and nine years apiece.

The UVa-Wise golf director is a graduate of Powell Valley High School where he went on to earn his bachelor's degree from East Tennessee State University. Kelly earned his master's degree from Union College.
