Cavalier Softball Goes 2-1 on Saturday

SALEM, Va. - -  The UVa-Wise softball team went 2-1 on Saturday with wins over California (Pa.) and Gannon University as the team continued its spring break trip.  The Cavaliers lone loss of the day came in a 2-1 defeat to LeMoyne.

In the opener, UVa-Wise received two hits each from Mindy Combs, Kristina Romualdo, Charity Lawson, and Christina Ziemba as the team posted a 7-2 win over California (Pa.). Combs, had two singles and a run scored, Romualdo homered and knocked in three runs, Lawson, homered and knocked in two, and Ziemba had a pair of singles which led to an RBI and a run scored.   Megan Dillion finished 1-3 with a double and a run scored while Allyssa Zebrowski singled and scored. 

Game two saw the Cavaliers cruise to a 12-1 win over Gannon Universityas seven different players collected at least one RBI in the contest.  Lawson finished 2-3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Ziemba and Romualdo each finished with a pair of hits and an RBI.  Ziemba added three runs scored while Romualdo crossed the plate once in the win.

In UVa-Wise's lone loss of the day, LeMoyne limited the club to just one run which came on an RBI single from Dillion that plated Romualdo. 

Rachel Hawks collected a pair of wins in the circle as the Cavs improved to 13-5 on the year.  The team will play Mercyhurst at 11 am Sunday morning to conclude its spring break trip.
